My Point of View

I have always thought of health care professionals as consultants and remember being surprised when, after I discussed alternatives for treatment with a patient, she replied "whatever you think is best".  I believe that we are all ultimately responsible for our own health and need to be informed consumers.  We know our bodies better than anyone and need to be the one who decides on treatment (or not to treat).   Because of this view, I try to provide information to people about all different aspects of health.  I often had patients tell me that I explained things so that they understood.

After I retired from seeing patients, I still wanted to be able to do this and so became an author.  It is my goal to help you understand various conditions and steps you can take to heal yourself.  Although I was trained in the  conventional medical model, I began learning about alternative medicine in response to my patients' interest in it.  I have always been interested in nutrition and believe that it plays a huge role in the treatment of chronic disease.  I like the idea of functional medicine, that is, looking for the underlying cause of our health problems rather than just prescribing medications for symptoms (and then prescribing more medications for the side effects).
